trimmed, so the trimmed value must be a valid header value (headerValueProblem).
Surrounding whitespace, a trailing newline from $(cat key-file) included, is
fine; a blank key or an inner control character is not. (The client treats a
blank apiKey as "no key" before this check; only the CLI's flag rejects one.)
